WE’RE TREND SPOTTERS!

The ancient Japanese art of Wabi-Sabi and ‘topsy-turvy’ interiors (wallpaper on the ceiling and rugs on the wall) are just some of the interior trends that have been driving amazing results for our clients in 2018.

Anyone working in PR for the home interest sector knows the importance of staying ahead of the latest decor trends.  It’s for this reason that we invest so much time and resource researching and analysing trend predictions.  Each year, a comprehensive trend report for our clients not only details the looks homeowners will be coveting in the year ahead, but also guides their photography direction and product selection.

Here’s a look back on the trends that have really taken off so far in 2018.

Statement Ceilings

Interior-01 smaller

In January, social media powerhouse Pinterest reported a 310% rise in people searching for and pinning “statement ceilings”.  We jumped on this as an ideal way to showcase some of the stunning designs our online wallpaper client has to offer.  A series of bespoke trend-led images were created for www.iwantwallpaper.co.uk demonstrating how to ‘raise the roof’ by wallpapering on the ceiling.  We think they look stunning – and the home interest media – Hello Magazine and House Beautiful amongst others – agreed.

Rugs as Art

tipi rugs

Why confine a gorgeous new rug to the floor to get dusty and downtrodden? Masterpieces like this geometric flatweave Tipi rug from The Rug Seller should be elevated it to an objet d’art.  We nailed the hanging rug trend for our online rug client – with help from media titles such as House Beautiful, EKBB, Fabric and LivingEdge and many more.

Perfect Imperfection

If you’ve not already heard of Wabi-Sabi, the Japanese wellness movement that finds beauty in imperfection, then you will.   We predicted that this modest way of living would replace Hygge and Lagom as the cultural concept to translate into an interiors trend. As a result our clients have featured in The Times, Cosmopolitan, MSN and Good Housekeeping, as well as a whole host of regional titles.

Sustainable Interiors

With all the noise generated around plastic waste as a result of Blue Planet II at the end of 2017, it became obvious that eco-living/sustainable interiors were going to be a big theme this year.  That’s why we placed so much importance on helping our bedding client to launch their new eco duvet with a seaside photo shoot to highlight the eco-friendly materials used (including recycled PET plastic bottles).  We bumped all our clients’ sustainable products to the top of our PR priority list and from barrier mats to window blinds we’ve been helping to raise awareness, as well as doing our bit for the environment too!
